In The Fog (1980), the small coastal town of Antonio Bay prepares to celebrate its centennial. Mysterious events begin as a thick, eerie fog rolls in from the sea. Strange occurrences, ghostly apparitions, and deadly attacks unsettle the townspeople. Father Malone, a local priest, uncovers a dark secretβ100 years ago, the townβs founders deliberately sank a ship filled with lepers to steal their gold.
As the fog spreads, vengeful spirits emerge, seeking retribution for their murder. Radio DJ Stevie Wayne, trapped in her lighthouse station, warns residents of the fogβs deadly path. Meanwhile, Elizabeth and Nick, along with Father Malone and others, struggle to survive. They realize that the spirits are targeting six people as a form of justice for the six conspirators who betrayed them.
In the climax, Father Malone attempts to return the stolen gold, hoping to appease the ghosts. The spirits momentarily retreat, sparing the town.
